The feature film “NOAH” is set to be released March 28, 2014 in theatres. The film will be starring Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson, and Anthony Hopkins. The film is directed by Darren Aronofsky who has directed films such as, “Black Swan,” (2010), “The Wrestler,” (2008), “Pi” (1998), “Requim for a Dream”(2000) and other successful films.

According to IMDB, the film’s short synopsis is as follows,The Biblical Noah suffers visions of an apocalyptic deluge and takes measures to protect his family from the coming flood.” –International Movie Database

An example of a quote from one of the film trailers is:

Russell-Crowe-as-Noah

“[Noah wakes up from a vision]

Naameh: Noah? What did He say?

Noah: He’s going to destroy the Earth.”

According to some Christians and other viewers, they are leary of the film being completely Biblical, and according to the Hollywood Reporter, there are even some controversies with environmentalism and how to end the film. The director has been deciding between the different cuts in post production. From the Hollywood Reporter article, “Darren Aronofsky, Paramount Spar Over ‘Noah’ Final Cut (Exclusive):”

Beyond the visuals, a major challenge has been coming up with an exciting third act that doesn’t alienate the potentially huge Christian audience (in the Bible, Noah and the ark’s inhabitants survive the flood that destroys the Earth). Some in the faith community already have expressed skepticism about the result…”

-The Hollywood Reporter

Nonetheless, it will be exciting to see the live story on screen in a feature film with Academy Award winning actors and actresses. I think giving the story a platform will be interesting and hopefully will become an encouragement for other film makers to do more Biblical films. Since the “Passion of the Christ”, History Channel’s ‘Bible Series,’ and other films, this is another high quality film that will hopefully point people to God and the Bible.

My hope is that there are more positive films, music, TV shows and other media platforms. This is just the beginning I believe there is a wave of influence our culture will have with ever increasing positive, Biblically influenced communication.

What do YOU think of the upcoming NOAH film?
